Hi Parents!
I hope that your child has enjoyed their second week of school . I am SO impressed at how well they are doing with the technology. Thank you so much for all of your support at home! I am happy to see that they are learning from home, but I cannot wait until I get to see them in person 😊 There is a lot of important information in this email, so don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions! Lessons are going to change a little bit this week so we can start working with students in small groups and for them to get familiar with this process. We will only be on live at 8:15 for morning meeting, for reading and math small groups daily, and Friday’s for the Math and Reading block . I want to make sure that I support your child’s individual learning needs and this will allow me to get to know them better. In the lesson plans you will see I am working with small groups every day in math and reading. Following this email you will receive what day your student will work with me in a small group for THIS WEEK. Please keep in mind that these small groups are for THIS WEEK ONLY. Since students will have the option to come to the building the following week, we will have to rework small groups based on which students are in person with us on a given day. You will see calendar invites for morning meeting daily, math, and reading on Friday. There are also calendar invites for each reading and math group on the calendar. Please only join for your students’ specific reading and math group. You will also notice that I included sight words and a word family on this week’s lesson plans. These are the sight words we will go over as a class and are in your green resource folder. In the folder, there are 2 different lists- Lists A-E and beginning word list- word list 4. I will be starting with word list A. If your child already knows these sight words, please feel free to move ahead. I would like for them to practice sight words and word families daily. A great way to practice these is to make flashcards! Please be on the lookout for an email from me by Monday afternoon in regards to Phase 1 return to school. I will be asking you how students will be getting home and what their carpool or bus number is, letting you know what time they will come to school, tell you if your child needs to bring any materials, and review new office hours with you. Students will be assigned a day to come, but teachers will select what time the students will come. It is very important that you let me know how they will be getting home and what their bus/carpool number is as soon as possible. This week we will be working with 2d shapes and talking about defining and non-defining attributes. Defining attributes are those that don’t change and make the shape what it is such as how many sides and corners/vertices, if the shape is closed. Non-defining attributes are things that CAN change such as size, color/pattern, orientation, and if the shape is open. In reading we will be reading “Mrs. Wishy Washy” and discussing patterns that we may notice in a book, reading with expression, one to one correspondence(touching each word as you read it), making predictions, inferencing, and eagle eye reading strategy (using the pictures to help us figure out a word- there is a reading strategy chart in your resource folder). For independent work in reading on some days, students will get to explore EPIC books and choose a book to read or listen to. See class code below. For phonics we will be discussing the letter a and d. We will review the letters c and o. We will also introduce students to the blending board so we can begin sounding out words using the stretchy snake reading strategy (reading strategy poster in green resource folder.) In social studies we will continue our unit on community helpers. We will discuss principals, police officers, park rangers, veterinarians, and how students are community helpers! Don’t forget about Iready! Students are required to be on for 45 minutes a week in both reading and math! Thanks, Alexis Frank

Hi Parents,
I hope the kids enjoyed their first week of school! It was so great getting to know them this week and see them come out of their shells. 😊 Attached are the lesson plans for next week. Lessons are going to change a little bit. We will only be on live at 8:15 for morning meeting and at 10:45 for science/social studies. You won’t see invites in your calendar for Math and Reading/ELA anymore. Math and Reading/ELA lessons will be pre-recorded in Seesaw and have accompanying activities. As I stated previously, Seesaw is up and running! You will be submitting all assignments on Seesaw; not just the graded assignments- as a reminder- here are the links on how to respond to activities and add an assignment though the journal: How Students Respond to Assignments in Seesaw How Students Post to their Journal in Seesaw You will also see highlighted items that have an asterisk. These are the graded items. Please make sure to turn students’ work in on Seesaw. If you have not already turned in their writing numbers 0-20 yet, please do so via email. We will also be having a meet the counselor/diversity lesson on Tuesday during our “No Specials” time. There will be a calendar invite for this lesson and you will join the same way you have been joining our class calls. On Monday, we will begin social-emotional lessons and discuss self-awareness and emotions. On Wednesday, we will be starting morning meeting and calendar math. Please have a piece of paper/pencil or dry erase marker/board available in case students need to write or draw anything. In math, we will begin talking about 2d shapes and positional words. We will talk about 2d shapes we can see in the real world as well as the ways we can compare different 2d shapes. In reading/ela, students will continue working on their “All About Me” book and start having fun with their “Alphabet Vest!” As a reminder, the newsletter for this is in your green resource folder and on our Weebly under “Newsletters.” We will also begin working on Iready reading and continue with letters and letter sounds. As a reminder, students are required to be on iready reading and math for 45 minutes each week. We will get started on math next week unless you would like to get a head start this week. Our no specials day and independent work time would be a perfect opportunity to fit in additional Iready time. Don’t forget that I will be doing one on one assessments with students next week. Here is the google doc link for your day and time. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kT4J8zQPvWA2UIZEo-dcdieEjGoN-BRM9UQmn3ynPyE/edit?usp=sharing Make sure students are on their Microsoft Teams Account and I will make a video call to them there. As always, please let me know if you have any questions! Hi Parents!
I am so excited to see the kids on Monday! Attached are next week’s lesson plans that we will be following. You will see that every morning a few students will be introducing themselves to the class so we can get to know each other. Before your students’ introduction day, please discuss with your kids their favorite color, favorite food, favorite animal, and favorite hobby so they are ready to share with us. 😊 If you can’t make it on the live lesson during that time, you can always send me a video of your child with that information. Please also note on certain days you will need to have some materials ready for the live lessons. As a reminder, synchronous means we are online together and asynchronous we are not. Synchronous lessons will be highlighted light blue for you to know when to get on to Teams with me. There will be no graded material the first week, but after that you will see items that are highlighted in yellow and with an asterisk to let you know what we will be taking for a grade. If you pull up the lesson plans on your phone, you will not see any of the highlighted items. If you sign up for a slot during my office hours, make sure you are logged in to Teams via Classlink so I can make a video call from there. Seesaw (online student portfolio) has not been updated for the current school year as of yet. Our first week plans will not require assignments to be submitted via Seesaw. We will let you know when we are ready to use Seesaw. The kindergarten team didn’t want to add a new platform to learn so you will need to take a picture and email me your child’s work when complete. After students introduce themselves this week, we will be talking about SOAR behavior during universal remote learning. SOAR is our PBIS (positive behavior intervention system) that we use when we are face to face as well. SOAR stands for Safe, Accountable, Outstanding, and Respectful. There is also a SOAR behavior matrix in the green resource folder you received. This week we will be doing a lot of character and emotion lessons such as respect, being brave, being a good friend, feelings, etc. and reading several books on those topics. Please be patient if the lessons run a little longer the first week as this is new for all of us. We want to be on with the kids live as much as possible. Please keep in mind it will take a few weeks for me to get to know students and their levels so please be flexible. This week, we will be going over some of the topics students will learn this year such as letters and numbers. We will begin the year with social studies and start our unit on community helpers. I also want to begin working on the “raising your hand” tool so students can begin to answer questions. I know I had difficulty with it during “Open House” so practicing will be helpful for me too! On another note, Tuesday is our no special’s day. This is a good time for a small break, some “Go Noodle” videos, looking through your resource folder and using the pages in the sheet protector to write numbers, write letters, etc. Please don’t forget to send me a current picture of your child if you haven’t done so already. Here are the links for each subject area’s synchronous lesson if you can’t access them using the directions I sent earlier in the week. I would prefer if students logged in through their Microsoft Teams via Classlink when possible so I can see their names instead of “guest” which is what I see if you log in through the link. The links for each subject area should be the same for everyday since it is just a recurring meeting. If not, just let me know.
